I’ve been Implementing MRP on our system lately. I’ve come across two very interesting checkboxes in the MRP wizard for holidays. For this issue, I’d like to look at where you store holidays and what these holiday and calendar systems affect.
Holidays and calendars are not easy to find. First, you need authorization to Administration>System Initialization>Company Details. So you are probably a system administrator.
Under the Accounting data tab here, you’ll find Holidays about halway down.
Click the golden arrow to what’s inside.
Several things are going on here.
On top is the name of the calendar.
Then, there’s week numbering.
Let’s pull up a calendar to see how this works. I’ll go to month view and January 1. On the left is the workweek. You have three ways to determine your weeks.
Week 1 can be the same week as January 1. It can start with the first week with a 4-day working week or the first full working week.
You can set your weekends here too.
Our company has a production schedule of Monday through Thursday. I can change the weekend to Friday to Sunday. For example, that will show as grayed-out areas of the dropdown calendar. I’ll update this and update it in the details, then go back. Check the dropdown calendar for grayed-out areas and you’ll see three days for a weekend.
Under that, you have two checkboxes.
If you don’t set holidays but are only setting weekends, or the holidays always fall on the same day of the year, you can uncheck the Valid box. You’ll notice the years disappear when unchecked.
My own office can best explain the second checkbox. Our production week is Monday through Thursday, but our office week is Monday through Friday. I have a Friday through Sunday weekend, but to enter sales orders, You check this box so users can work on the weekends.
Finally, there’s the chart for the holidays.
You can add your own holidays. For example, I want to give everyone off and close the office for International Pizza Day. I could add to this list, 2/9/2021, 2/9/2021 and Int’l Pizza Day.
I could also give off the Holiday season from Christmas eve to after New Year’s.
Update this. and you will see its effect, especially on weekends on popup calendars. Open a sales order and check the calendar on the delivery date for December. I have a full week-long winter break.
Holidays affect several systems. This calendar prevents some transactions. MRP uses the holiday calendar as Adding delay factors into production and purchasing. . We don’t work every day, And the holiday calendar makes sure SAP business One knows this.
